Police detain 21-year-old suspect from Ondo over purported sexual assault and homicide

A 21-year-old individual, Alabi Anthony, has been taken into custody by the Ondo State Police Command for his alleged involvement in the rape and murder of Olaseni Veronica, a woman who resided in the Iboropa community within the Akoko North-East Local Government Area.

The arrest was made possible due to a tip-off that enabled the police to track down the victim's missing phone, according to DSP Abayomi Jimoh, the command's spokesperson.

During questioning, the suspect allegedly acknowledged his role in the crime, with Jimoh stating that Alabi Anthony confessed to raping the victim before ultimately strangling her.

Jimoh characterized the actions as a "heinous and inhumane" act, while also reassuring the public that the command is committed to ensuring that justice is served in the case.

The investigation has now been transferred to the state police headquarters located in Akure, where it will undergo further examination and prosecution.
