Police deploy officers to Anambra schools as students resume

The Anambra State Police Command has deployed personnel to schools and strategic locations across the state as pupils and students resume for the new academic session.

The deployment, carried out under the Inspector General of Police’s Safe School Initiative, is aimed at preventing security threats around schools, protecting students and ensuring safe movement during peak school hours.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday, saying the operation was coordinated by the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, ACP Harrison Oruruo.

Ikenga said the officers would maintain a visible presence around schools, sensitise pupils and students on personal safety, assist them in crossing roads and respond to security concerns.

He added that the initiative would also promote stronger cooperation among the police, school authorities, parents, teachers, host communities and other stakeholders.

The Commissioner of Police, Nnanna Oji Ama, urged parents, teachers and students to remain vigilant and immediately report suspicious persons or activities around schools.

He said, “The protection of children and other members of the school community remains a priority for the command. We urge school authorities, parents, guardians and students to remain security conscious and promptly report any suspicious persons, activities or security concerns to the police.”

Ama described security as a shared responsibility, urging stakeholders to maintain effective communication with the police and other security agencies.

He said, “Security is a shared responsibility. All stakeholders must support the Safe School Initiative by maintaining effective communication with the police and other security agencies.”

The CP assured residents that the command would sustain police visibility, community engagement and proactive policing around educational institutions across the state.

He also wished pupils, students, teachers and other members of the school community a safe and successful academic session.
