Police arrest two robbery suspects, recover three pistols in Ogun

Operatives of the Anti-Robbery Team of the Ogun State Police Command have arrested two suspected members of an armed robbery syndicate and recovered three locally made pistols and 18 live cartridges from them.
nThe suspects, Adeyinka Onakomaya, 46, and Olayiwola Kehinde, 48, were arrested during a follow-up investigation into the recovery of a stolen red Toyota Matrix linked to an armed robbery incident in April 2026.
nThe command’s spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement made available to journalists on Wednesday.
nBabaseyi said the arrests followed “relentless operational follow-ups and sustained tactical intelligence” by the Anti-Robbery Team after the recovery of the vehicle.
nHe said operatives traced the suspects to their respective hideouts in the Babaode area along Idiroko Road, Ota, Ogun State, and the Command area of Lagos State.
n“Preliminary investigations revealed that the two arrested suspects, alongside other members of their gang, masterminded the April robbery incident and participated in a series of armed robbery operations and violent vehicle snatchings across Ota, Iju, Babaode, and Atan areas of Ogun State,” Babaseyi said.
nHe added that a search conducted after their arrest led to the recovery of “three locally made pistols and eighteen live cartridges.”
nAccording to the spokesperson, the suspects allegedly confessed during interrogation to participating in several armed robbery operations in the region and were providing information to assist the ongoing investigation.
n“Efforts are being intensified to track down, identify, and arrest other fleeing members of the criminal syndicate for possible prosecution,” Babaseyi said.
nThe state Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the Anti-Robbery Team for its “tenacity, operational efficiency, and commitment to follow-up investigations.”
nOjajuni said the recovery of the firearms and arrest of the suspects demonstrated the command’s determination to pursue criminal investigations to a logical conclusion.
nHe urged residents to remain vigilant and report suspicious persons, movements and activities to the police through the command’s emergency channels.
