Police arrest three suspected drug dealers in Jigawa, seize illicit drugs

The Jigawa State Police Command has arrested three suspected drug dealers and recovered 5,676 pieces of assorted illicit substances in an intelligence-led operation across the state.

This was contained in a statement made available to journalists by the Police Public Relations Officer, Jigawa State Command, SP Shi’isu Adam, on Wednesday in Dutse, the state capital.

According to the PPRO, the raid on the suspects was part of renewed efforts to curb drug trafficking and protect residents from the dangers associated with substance abuse.

He stated that “The suspects were arrested during coordinated raids carried out by police operatives based on credible intelligence gathered on activities linked to the sale, distribution and abuse of prohibited drugs.”

Adam identified the suspects as Umar Rabiu, popularly known as Sarka, 22, of Unguwar Gamji; Auwalu Muhammad, 25, of Gusau Quarters; and Umar Akilu, 25, of Kuka Village.

He said, “The operation resulted in the recovery of a large quantity of suspected illicit substances, including 3,833 Exol tablets, 204 Tramadol tablets, 919 Diazepam tablets and 114 Pregabalin capsules.”

The PPRO further disclosed that the operatives recovered 101 tubes of rubber solution, 30 Lara capsules, codeine syrup and two litres of a substance locally referred to as “Suck and Die,” alongside other suspected prohibited substances.

Adam added that “The police also recovered dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp, scientifically known as Cannabis sativa, comprising one block and 475 wraps. During the operation, the operatives also recovered the sum of N93,626, which is reasonably believed to be proceeds from the illicit drug trade.

He said the latest arrests formed part of the command’s sustained crackdown on criminal networks involved in the trafficking, distribution and abuse of illicit drugs across Jigawa State.

The PPRO quoted the Commissioner of Police as commending the officers involved in the operation for their professionalism, vigilance and dedication to disrupting the activities of suspected criminals involved in the illicit drug trade.

According to Adam, the Commissioner of Police stressed that “the abuse and trafficking of narcotic substances remain major contributors to violent crimes and other social vices, particularly among young people.”

The Commissioner, he added, warned individuals involved in the sale, distribution or consumption of prohibited drugs to immediately desist from such activities or risk facing the full weight of the law, stressing that “the Command would continue to intensify intelligence-led operations against drug networks.”

Adam further disclosed that the three suspects had already been arraigned before a court, adding that “the Jigawa Police Command will continue to ensure that all persons found culpable in connection with the offences are brought to justice.”
