Police arrest 11 suspects in Ogun, recover stolen vehicles, firearms

The Ogun State Police Command says it arrested 11 suspects and recovered two suspected stolen vehicles, three firearms and 25 Automated Teller Machine cards during various operations across the state between September 16 and 26, 2026.

The command also said eight vehicles were impounded for obstructing traffic during a “No Parking” operation around the Sagamu Interchange Bridge.

The Police Public Relations Officer in the state, Oluseyi Babaseyi, disclosed this in a statement released on Sunday, saying the successes were recorded through “effective policing, targeted operations and proactive enforcement.”

According to him, the operations were carried out under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni.

Babaseyi said, “Among the highlights are the arrest of 11 suspects, recovery of two suspected stolen vehicles, three firearms, 25 ATM cards, multiple mobile phones and assorted electrical materials, as well as the impoundment of eight vehicles for obstruction of traffic.”

The command said detectives attached to the Owode Egba Division recovered a stolen commercial TVS motorcycle at Mokoloki Village on September 17, following a complaint lodged on September 16.

“Two suspects, Rasheed Abdul ‘M’ and Saula Meshinoye ‘M’, were arrested in connection with the alleged theft, while an accomplice, Saheed ‘M’, remains at large,” the statement said.

It added, “Investigation is ongoing, with efforts underway to apprehend the fleeing suspect.”

The police also said operatives of the Olorunda Division intercepted three persons along Ayetoro Road on September 19 while they were allegedly conveying stolen electrical materials on a motorcycle.

“Two suspects, Mutiu Gafar ‘M’, aged 19 years, and Fatai Obasanmi ‘M’, aged 37 years, were arrested, while Tosin ‘M’ escaped,” the statement said.

“Recovered items included bundles of electrical wiring, a change-over electrical box and a circuit breaker box, allegedly stolen from a residence in the area.”

The command said investigation was ongoing, while efforts continued to apprehend the fleeing suspect.

In another operation, SWAT operatives from Base 7, Abule-Iroko, arrested three suspects on September 21 after intercepting an unregistered tricycle and an unregistered TVS motorcycle around Dalemo, Ota.

The suspects were identified as Olamide Ayandele, 30, Tope Samuel, 40, and Ayo Peter Ojo, 30.

The statement said, “Preliminary investigation linked the suspects to alleged vehicle theft around the Ijoko axis.”

It added, “Efforts are ongoing to identify and apprehend other persons who may be connected with the alleged activities.”

Similarly, the Igbesa Division arrested Ameachine Anthony, 45, on September 22 over an alleged N2.5m fraud.

The police said 25 ATM cards and multiple mobile phones were recovered from him.

“Preliminary investigation indicates an alleged scheme involving utility bills and newly acquired SIM cards used through associates to facilitate bank accounts, after which the ATM cards were allegedly collected for fraudulent transactions,” the statement said.

The command said the suspect and exhibits had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation.

Also on September 22, SWAT operatives arrested Peter Olanrewaju, 34, following information concerning a suspected cult-related gathering.

The statement said, “Further investigation led to the arrest of Adebayo Sodiq ‘M’, aged 36 years, and the recovery of one pump-action rifle and two locally made pistols.”

It added, “Investigation is continuing to establish the circumstances surrounding the possession of the firearms and to identify other persons who may be connected with the case.”

Meanwhile, detectives of the Ijebu-Ode Area Crime Office recovered a Safira vehicle reportedly taken from its owner and arrested Olatunji Olalekan following what the command described as discreet investigation, intelligence gathering and tracking.

“The vehicle has been secured as an exhibit, while investigation continues to establish the circumstances surrounding its disappearance and recovery,” the statement said.

The command also said personnel of the Sagamu Area Command and adjoining divisions conducted a “No Parking” operation around the Sagamu Interchange Bridge on September 26.

“Eight vehicles found obstructing the highway were impounded to facilitate free traffic flow and improve safety for road users,” the police said.

It added, “The affected vehicles are to be processed for prosecution on 28 September 2026, while similar enforcement operations will continue as necessary.”

The Commissioner of Police, Bode Ojajuni, commended the officers for their vigilance and professionalism, as well as members of the public for their cooperation.

He reaffirmed the command’s commitment to proactive policing and urged residents to remain vigilant and provide credible information to the police.
