Plateau Governor Mutfwang Overhauls State's Security Framework

Plateau State Governor Caleb Mutfwang has given the green light to a major overhaul of the state's security setup, naming retired Brig.-Gen. Nash Yakubu as the new Coordinator of Operation Rainbow, the state's own security outfit, in a move aimed at bolstering safety and security.

This key appointment was made public on Tuesday through a statement released by Secretary to the State Government Samuel Jatau, outlining the details of Yakubu's new role.

Yakubu brings a wealth of experience to the table, having spent 35 years in the Nigerian Army, during which time he was involved in numerous high-profile operations, both at home and abroad.

His impressive service record includes playing a part in efforts to address the MASSOB and IPOB crises, as well as peacekeeping missions in Sierra Leone and Sudan, and deployments in Nigeria's troubled North-East region.

In another significant move, Governor Mutfwang has reassigned the Acting Coordinator of Operation Rainbow, retired Brig.-Gen. Gakji Shipi Goshwe, to the role of Coordinator of the Safe School Programme, a position that underscores the importance of educational institution security.

Prior to his reassignment, Goshwe also served as the governor's Special Adviser on Security, highlighting his expertise and experience in this critical area.

In a related development, Mutfwang has appointed retired Maj.-Gen. Bala A. Isandu as his new Special Adviser on Security, a move that further reinforces the state's security apparatus.

Isandu's background includes a stint as Senior Special Assistant on Intelligence to the Minister of Defence, as well as leadership positions at the Defence Intelligence Agency, making him a seasoned and knowledgeable addition to the team.

According to the state government, these appointments are effective immediately and are designed to enhance the state's security framework, protect lives and property, and ensure the safety of schools, all of which are critical to the well-being of Plateau State's citizens.

Plateau State has long been one of Nigeria's most troubled regions, plagued by recurring attacks and reprisal killings in areas such as Bokkos, Barkin Ladi, Mangu, Riyom, and Bassa local government areas, resulting in devastating loss of life and displacement of thousands of residents.
