PHOTOS: Zulum unveils N15.9bn flyover, schools in Maiduguri

Borno State Governor, Babagana Zulum, has commissioned a N15.9 billion flyover in the Post Office area of Maiduguri, marking the fourth flyover in the state capital.

The nine-span flyover, which was completed within 11 months, was awarded in 2025 to Chinese contractors, Eighteenth Engineering Company.

The government also commissioned school projects, including Larawaram Community Senior Secondary School and Shehu Sanda Kyarimi 1 Primary and Junior Day Secondary School.

Other commissioned projects are the dualised 2.5km road and 5km Drainage in Kasuwan Shanu.

Speaking shortly after the commissioning on Sunday, Zulum said the flyover project is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety, and facilitate the movement of people and goods along one of Maiduguri’s important transportation corridors.

He said, “The Post Office nine-span flyover was constructed at a cost of fifteen billion, nine hundred and fifty-eight million, five hundred and eighteen thousand, six hundred and forty-seven Naira, twenty-one kobo only, and completed within 11 months.

“The project is expected to ease traffic congestion, improve road safety and facilitate the movement of people and goods along one of Maiduguri’s important transportation corridors.”

The governor said the commissioned roads and drainage were constructed at the cost of N5,002,552,300.08.

“We are equally commissioning the 2.5km dualised road with 5km of drainage from the Budum Tandari Junction to Kasuwan Shanu, constructed at a cost of N5,002,552,300.08.

“Together, these projects represent our continued commitment to improving mobility, strengthening urban infrastructure and creating an environment that supports economic activity and social development,” Zulum stressed.

His Nasarawa State counterpart, Abullahi Sule, who joined in the commissioning, commended the Borno government for embarking on the project, adding that it would serve the benefit of the people.

Sule said, “This is one of the projects we will be commissioning today, built by the administration of my dear brother, His Excellency, Babagana Zulum, for the benefit of humanity and for he benefit of our people.”

Sule congratulated the people of the state and residents of Maiduguri, whom he described as the greatest beneficiaries of the project.
