PCRC hails Jimoh’s appointment as AIG Zone 2

The Police Community Relations Committee in Lagos and Ogun states has commended the appointment of Moshood Jimoh as the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2.

The committee expressed support for Jimoh, noting that his appointment inspires confidence among stakeholders across the two states.

According to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Chairman of PCRC Zone 2 Command Caretaker Committee, Uthman Jagunmo, the committee described the former Lagos State Commissioner as well-qualified for the role.

The statement read, “We received his appointment with great confidence, anchored on his proven track record, professionalism, and demonstrated capacity in crime prevention and control, particularly during his distinguished service in Lagos State.

“Jimoh’s wealth of experience and operational competence make him well-suited for this critical responsibility at this pivotal time.”

The committee, however, condemned calls for Jimoh’s replacement, describing such demands as inappropriate and detrimental to the police institution.

“The PCRC unequivocally condemns, in its entirety, calls for the replacement of AIG Moshood Jimoh.

n

“Such calls are not only unwarranted but also undermine the institutional integrity and established procedures governing postings within the Nigeria Police Force,” it said.

It stressed that police postings should remain the responsibility of the appropriate authorities, free from external interference.

“We firmly assert that the deployment and posting of police officers are administrative matters that must remain within the purview of the appropriate authorities, free from the pressures of political jobbers and commercial activists seeking relevance,” it added.

Describing Jimoh as the right fit for the position, the PCRC said, “AIG Moshood Jimoh represents a round peg in a round hole—an officer whose competence aligns perfectly with the demands of policing in Zone 2.”

“At a time when strategic leadership and stability are essential, he stands as a dependable figure capable of consolidating gains in public safety and security.”

The committee called on stakeholders to support the new AIG in ensuring peace and security in the region.

“The PCRC in Lagos and Ogun States, therefore, calls on all well-meaning stakeholders to support AIG Jimoh in the discharge of his duties, in the collective interest of peace, security, and community development.”

Recall that the Inspector-General of Police, Olatunji Disu, redeployed Jiomh to Zone 2, Lagos, following his recent promotion to AIG.

According to a statement issued on Tuesday by the Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Anthony Placid, the redeployment is part of efforts to strengthen operations, enhance leadership capacity, and improve service delivery nationwide.

“The postings are in line with the Force’s commitment to an effective command structure and the strategic deployment of personnel across commands, formations, and departments,” the statement added.
