Panel distances itself from fraudulent document backing Obi-Kwankwaso presidential bid

The Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has disowned a purported circular circulating on social media which promoted a presidential ticket involving former Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, and former Kano State Governor, Rabiu Kwankwaso, ahead of the 2027 elections.

CDCFIB, in a statement issued on Friday by its Head of Press and Public Relations, Okeh Juliet, described the circular as false and unauthorised.

“The Board wishes to dissociate itself from the purported statement and wishes to inform the public that it is false, unauthorised, and as such, did not originate from the Board or the Office of the Secretary to the Board,” the statement said.

The Board said the document contained political undertones that were inconsistent with its official communication standards.

“The purported document contains political undertones which is not consistent with the official, non-partisan communication standards of the Board. Members of the public are advised to disregard it in its entirety,” it stated.

The fake circular, which appeared to come from the Office of the Secretary and referenced delays in the ongoing recruitment exercise, claimed the process had been slowed by administrative hurdles requiring clearance from the Minister of Interior.

It then expressed hope that Nigerians would elect “visionary leaders” in 2027, citing “a leadership ticket such as Obi/Kwankwaso under the NDC platform” as representing transformative governance that could streamline processes and reduce bureaucratic fatigue.

Rejecting the messaging, CDCFIB said the Ministry of Interior, under the leadership of the Minister, Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, had continued to pursue institutional reforms and improved service delivery across the agencies under its supervision.

“The minister’s commitment to professionalism, accountability, and citizen-centred governance remains focused on strengthening the nation’s internal security architecture and enhancing public confidence in the services,” the statement added.

The Board urged applicants and members of the public to rely only on its official communication channels for information concerning the recruitment exercise and other activities.

“Applicants and the general public are urged to rely only on the official CDCFIB communication channels for authentic information regarding the recruitment exercise as well as other Board activities,” it said.
