This truce, which was announced last Wednesday, was slated to last until midnight Monday, coinciding with the Eid al-Fitr holiday that marks the end of Ramadan.

Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar's statement, issued on the occasion of Pakistan Day, emphasized the country's unwavering commitment to eradicating terrorism, with Pakistan's actions in Afghanistan aimed at achieving this objective.

On Sunday, a mortar shell fired by Pakistan reportedly killed one person in the eastern border province of Kunar, according to the Taliban government and a medical source.

The longstanding conflict between Afghanistan and Pakistan stems from Islamabad's claims that Kabul is harboring extremists responsible for cross-border attacks, a claim the Taliban authorities deny.

A temporary ceasefire was established after a Pakistani strike on a Kabul drug rehabilitation centre last Monday, which Afghan authorities claimed resulted in over 400 fatalities.

The current skirmishes, which began in February, followed unsuccessful mediation efforts by the Gulf states and China, with the Gulf countries now shifting their focus to regional developments since the start of US-Israeli strikes on Iran last month.

In a message marking Pakistan Day, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif described military action inside Afghanistan as a demonstration of the nation's resolve against terrorism.
