Pair of Nice hardcore fans could be imprisoned for attacking Moffi

French prosecutors have requested prison sentences for two OGC Nice ultras accused of facilitating an attack on Nigerian forward Terem Moffi and former Chelsea winger Jérémie Boga in November 2025, according to L’Équipe and AFP.

More than 200 supporters gathered outside Nice’s training ground following a 3-1 defeat to Lorient and blocked the team’s bus. The two defendants, who previously held positions within the Populaire Sud ultras group, reportedly boarded the vehicle and assured the players that they could safely leave to speak with the crowd.

While most of the squad passed through without incident, Moffi and Boga were subjected to insults, spitting and violent jostling. Both players and the club subsequently filed complaints.

Although neither defendant is accused of personally assaulting the players, prosecutor Damien Martinelli described the incident as an “ambush”, arguing that it would not have occurred without their intervention.

A two-year sentence, including one year in prison, was requested for one of the ultras. Prosecutors sought two years in prison and an immediate committal order for the second defendant, alongside the revocation of a previous suspended sentence.

The Nice criminal court is expected to deliver its verdict on September 11.

Since the incident, Moffi left Nice on loan for Porto, where he won the Portuguese league title after scoring two goals in 15 appearances.

Porto, however, did not exercise its option to sign the Nigerian permanently for €8m, with reports suggesting the Portuguese club wanted to negotiate a lower transfer fee.

As things stand, Nice have indicated that Moffi will leave the club despite resuming pre-season training with them earlier this month.

Nice’s new sporting director, Roger Ricort, confirmed that the Nigerian is among the players the club wants to sell before the new season.

“He is one of the players we want to leave. He will surely be transferred elsewhere,” Ricort said.

“We don’t necessarily respect the man, but we will respect the player. At the moment, he knows that he won’t be able to play for Nice anymore either.

“I think that would show a lack of respect to our supporters, but as long as he is here, we will try to be proper with him and his agents. When he finds a club, we will shake hands and wish each other good luck.”
