Pair detained after demonstrators from Osun university clash with law enforcement facility

The Osun State Police Command confirmed on Thursday the arrest of two individuals in connection with an attack on the Ijebu Jesa Divisional Headquarters, which was carried out during a protest by students of Interlink College of Health Technology, Ijebu Jesa.
nThe protest broke out following the death of Oluwaseun, a National Diploma II student of the Mass Communication Department, who was killed in a road accident on Wednesday while riding a motorcycle from Ilesa to Ijebu Jesa.
nOluwaseun's motorcycle was hit by a bus, resulting in fatal injuries, and video clips captured the ensuing chaos as angry students clashed with police officers at the accident scene after their demand to release the bus driver to them was denied.
nThe protesters attempted to set the bus on fire before being dispersed by police using teargas, and later regrouped to storm the Ijebu Jesa Divisional Headquarters, where another confrontation reportedly took place.
nAccording to the Police Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Ojelabi, the students engaged in violent conduct, and police personnel were assaulted during the attack on the station, which prompted the arrest of two individuals.
nOjelabi explained that upon receiving news of the accident, police quickly responded to the scene, where they found a crowd gathering, and soon after, a loaf of bread soaked in petrol was set on fire and thrown under the bus involved in the accident.
nPolice were able to put out the fire and recover the vehicle, and despite appeals from two Divisional Police Officers and the town monarch to remain calm, some protesters proceeded to attack the Ijebu Jesa Divisional Headquarters, breaking a vehicle windscreen and assaulting officers.
nTwo individuals were arrested and have been transferred to the headquarters in Osogbo, where an investigation is currently underway, according to Ojelabi.
nThe remains of the deceased student, Oluwaseun, were buried on Thursday in Iwoye Ijesa, Osun State, during a funeral attended by many of his colleagues.
