Oyo to Resume Classes in Four Local Governments on Monday Following Enhanced Security Measures

The Oyo State Government has given the green light for schools in Oriire Local Government Area and neighbouring local government areas to reopen on Monday, following the deployment of additional security personnel to the affected communities.

This move comes after the government had initially shut down schools on Friday, in response to the violent attacks on schools in the Ahoro-Esinle community in Oriire LGA, which resulted in the death of a teacher and the kidnapping of several students.

The affected areas comprise Oriire, Oyo East, Surulere, and Olorunsogo local government areas, all of which were impacted by the earlier closure.

According to Mr Nureni Adeniran, the Executive Chairman of the Oyo State Universal Basic Education Board, the decision to reopen schools was made after a thorough review of security arrangements in the wake of the recent attack on schools in Ahoro-Esinle community.

Adeniran stated that the state government, in collaboration with security agencies, has bolstered surveillance and safety measures across the affected areas to safeguard pupils, teachers, and other school staff.

The deployment of additional security operatives, as directed by the Commissioner of Police, has significantly enhanced the security landscape within the affected regions, Adeniran noted.

The safety and well-being of pupils and teachers remain the top priority of the state government, and with the improved security situation, learning activities can now resume without fear.

The government will continue to closely monitor the situation in partnership with local authorities and community stakeholders, Adeniran said, adding that parents and guardians should remain calm and refrain from spreading unverified information.
