Oyo king praises Tinubu for launching massive N265 billion highway construction plan

The Oke-Ogun region of Oyo State, on Wednesday, thanked President Bola Tinubu following the Federal Government’s approval of the construction of the Iseyin-Ipapo-Ibaruba road at a cost of N265 billion.

The Chairman of the Conference of Obas and Chiefs of Oke-Ogun and Aseyin of Iseyinland, Oba Sefiu Oyebola, gave the commendation in a statement issued in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital.

He said he was speaking on behalf of the people of the 10 local government areas that make up the Oke-Ogun region.

The monarch said, “The approval of the roads is a historic turning point that will unlock economic prosperity for the entire zone and its adjoining states.

“The president’s decision has ended decades of neglect and transportation hardship that have stifled trade, agriculture and investment in the axis.

n

“This road is more than asphalt and bridges. It is a lifeline, a promise kept and a clear demonstration of President Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda for rural and agrarian communities.

“The N265 billion project will link Iseyin through Ipapo to Ibaruba, connecting Oke-Ogun, Oyo North, to the Kwara and Niger borders.”

The monarch noted that the region is Nigeria’s food basket, producing cocoa, cashew, maize, cassava and livestock. He added, “The corridor will now cut post-harvest losses, reduce transport costs and attract agro-processing industries that will create thousands of jobs for youths.”

The paramount ruler, therefore, urged the Federal Ministry of Works, the contracting firm and monitoring agencies to prioritise quality, speed and local content in the execution of the project.

“We ask that competent Oke-Ogun indigenes be engaged at all levels and that the road be built to last for generations,” the Aseyin stated.

He also prayed for Tinubu’s health, wisdom and strength to complete his Renewed Hope mandate.

“On behalf of Iseyinland, Oke-Ogun and generations yet unborn, we say thank you, Sir. This project will be written in gold as one of the boldest investments in our history,” the monarch concluded.

PUNCH Online reports that Tinubu, on Monday, approved 27 road projects valued at over N3.9 trillion across 15 states as part of the Federal Government’s drive to improve road infrastructure nationwide.

The Minister of Works, David Umahi, disclosed this while briefing journalists after the Federal Executive Council meeting held at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

He said, “The approved projects span Adamawa, Benue, Cross River, Ebonyi, Ekiti, Kogi, Kwara, Lagos, Niger, Ondo, Osun, Oyo, Plateau, Taraba and Yobe states.”

Umahi also said the council approved the re-award of the 409-kilometre dual carriageway project in Niger State under the tax credit scheme to businessman Aliko Dangote at N1.8 trillion.
