#OsunDecides2026: We did it, Davido celebrates Adeleke’s victory

Afrobeats star, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has celebrated the victory of his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, in the governorship election.

Davido took to his X account on Sunday to celebrate the outcome of the election.

“We did it Unc,” he wrote.

n

In a video accompanying the post, the singer was seen lying on the floor while one of his aides, Israel, hailed him, saying, “Congratulations boss.”

Davido had actively campaigned for Adeleke throughout the election and repeatedly expressed confidence that the governor would emerge victorious.

n

Adeleke was on Sunday declared the winner of the Osun State governorship election after polling 511,067 votes across the state.

The State Returning Officer and Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University, Oye-Ekiti, Prof Joshua Ogunwole, declared the result at about 7:24 a.m. on Sunday.

n

Ogunwole subsequently returned Adeleke to office for another term.

The incumbent governor, who contested the election on the platform of the Accord Party, defeated his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress, who polled 444,815 votes.

Adeleke won in 19 local government areas, while Oyebamiji won in 11.

The governor secured victories in Ede North, Ede South, Ejigbo, Iwo, Egbedore, Ife North, Ife East, Ife Central, Oriade, Ifelodun, Orolu, Ayedaade, Ayedire, Odo Otin, Boluwaduro, Ilesa West, Ifedayo, Osogbo and another local government area, according to the results announced by the Returning Officer.

Oyebamiji won in Irewole, Isokan, Olorunda, Atakumosa East, Atakumosa West, Ilesa East, Boripe, Irepodun, Obokun and other local government areas announced during collation.

Announcing the final figures, Ogunwole said accredited voters totalled 1,010,684, while the total valid votes stood at 985,079. He said 20,721 votes were rejected, bringing the total votes cast to 1,005,800.

The Returning Officer said after the agents of the political parties signed the results, Adeleke had satisfied the requirements of the law and was therefore declared the winner of the election.

“That Ademola Nurudeen-Jackson Adeleke, having satisfied the requirements of the law, is hereby declared the winner of the August 15 governorship election and returned elected,” Ogunwole declared.

n

The candidate of the African Democratic Congress, Najeem Salaam, came third in the election.
