Osun State Releases Relief Packages to Government Employees

The Osun State Government has undertaken a fresh round of palliative payments to civil servants statewide, aiming to bolster workers' welfare and mitigate the effects of ongoing economic challenges.
nThis move is part of the administration's efforts to support public servants, as announced by Olawale Rasheed, spokesperson to Governor Ademola Adeleke, in a statement on the state's X handle on Wednesday.
nRasheed emphasized that the disbursement reflects the administration's dedication to backing civil servants, stating, "As part of our commitment to civil servants of Osun State, the backbone of our administration, we have once again disbursed palliatives to augment their salaries."
nThe Adeleke administration had introduced periodic palliative payments even before implementing the new minimum wage, a step that Rasheed described as a demonstration of its commitment to workers' welfare.
nRasheed noted that, "Notably, we commenced periodic palliative payments even before implementing the new minimum wage increase, which positioned Osun as one of the first states in the federation to do so."
nThe government drew a contrast between its record on workers' welfare and that of the previous administration, stating that the previous administration had "weaponized poverty and systematically deprived civil servants of their earned salaries and entitlements."
nThe current administration is committed to treating those who serve the state with dignity and providing them with their rightful compensation, as stated in the announcement.
nBy continuing to pay palliatives, the government seeks to restore confidence in the public service, improve staff morale, attract competent personnel, and enhance service delivery to the people of the state.
