Osun State Governorship Election: PDP Faction Under Oyinlola's Leadership Throws Weight Behind Oyebamiji

A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Osun State, under the leadership of former governor Olagunsoye Oyinlola, announced its support for All Progressives Congress candidate Bola Oyebamiji in the upcoming governorship election, slated for next Saturday.

Oyinlola made this declaration during an event in Osogbo, where his faction formally endorsed Oyebamiji's candidacy, citing the group's decision to distance itself from incumbent Governor Ademola Adeleke's administration due to a perceived lack of inclusivity in his governance approach.

The former Osun governor, who was accompanied by Minister of Marine and Blue Economy Adegboyega Oyetola, former Secretary to the Osun State Government Fatai Akinbade, and former Commissioner for Special Duties Tajudeen Oladipupo, emphasized that the group's decision to back Oyebamiji did not signify a defection from the PDP.

Oyinlola stated that the group's adoption of Oyebamiji's candidacy was a deliberate and convictions-driven choice, made with the sincere desire to propel the state forward, highlighting the need for inclusiveness in governance as a crucial factor in their decision-making process.

According to Oyinlola, the PDP's core values of consultation, participation, and collective responsibility must be upheld, and the group's decision should not be misconstrued as an abandonment of the party, as they remain committed PDP members.

Oyinlola urged Oyebamiji to prioritize good governance, economic development, infrastructure, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment, and job creation, stressing the importance of a people-centric and inclusive government.

In his response, Oyebamiji expressed confidence that the broad-based support his candidacy had garnered would ultimately lead to the APC's victory in the governorship election, citing the warm reception he had received during his visits to various local government areas in Osun State.

Oyebamiji assured that he would run an inclusive government if elected, and dismissed allegations of rigging as a manifestation of fear of defeat, given the widespread support his ambition had received from diverse segments of the state's population.
