Osun senator flags off power, road construction projects

The lawmaker representing Osun Central Senatorial District in the Senate, Olubiyi Fadeyi, has flagged off a 7.5 MVA power transformer substation project in Ila-Orangun, Osun State, assuring that his ambition to return to the Senate in 2027 would not affect the execution of the projects.

The senator also formally commenced work on a two-kilometre road leading to the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital in Ila-Orangun.

Fadeyi, in a statement he personally made available to journalists in Osogbo on Monday, said work had also commenced on a five-kilometre solar-powered streetlight project from Otan-Ayegbaju to Ila-Orangun.

The lawmaker, who had earlier inspected the completed Open University Community Centre in Ifon-Osun, the Open University Community Centre in Oke-Ila and the construction of two blocks of 16 shops at a market mall in Inisa, said more developmental projects spread across the 10 local government areas in the senatorial district would soon commence.

He said, “I am inspecting some of the senatorial projects I initiated to ensure compliance with specifications. We have a lot of projects that have been completed already, and more projects across the 10 local government areas in Osun Central Senatorial District will come up latest by November.

“Some of the completed projects I inspected include 4 blocks classroom at Ota – Efun Community Grammar School in Olorunda Local Government, 4 block classroom blocks at Anglican Grammar School, Iree, in Boripe Local Government. I also flagged off work on 5km solar-powered streetlights from Otan- Ayiegbaju to Ila-Orangun.

“We have also formally flagged off construction and installation of a 7.5 MVA Power Transformer (substation unit ) in Ila-Orangun, and also that of a 2 km road construction of the Federal University of Health Sciences Teaching Hospital, Ila-Orangun, has been done. The forthcoming election won’t cause distractions. We will continue to work on the ongoing projects and initiate new ones.”

Fadeyi said the senatorial projects were selected after consultations with residents of the various communities where they were located. He also challenged politicians to create avenues for exchanging ideas with their constituents to meet and surpass the expectations of the people.

On his 2027 ambition, Fadeyi, who is seeking re-election on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party, said the people would vote based on antecedents rather than promises.

PUNCH Online earlier reported that Fadeyi donated N20 million to victims of a rainstorm that destroyed private and public property in Osogbo.

Fadeyi, who is also the Chairman of the Senate Committee on Environment, announced the donation in a statement signed by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Desmond Adekanola, obtained in Osogbo.

PUNCH Online reports that the heavy storm that accompanied the rainfall destroyed many privately and publicly owned properties, particularly in Osogbo, the state capital.

Several residential buildings in Awosuru, Testing Ground, Igbona and Ogooluwa areas, among others, were affected, while market stalls, electricity and telecommunications installations and worship centres were also damaged.
