Osun monarchs back lawyer’s Reps bid

The Ijesa North Traditional Rulers’ Council in Oriade Local Government Area of Osun State has endorsed the 2027 House of Representatives ambition of a lawyer, Pelumi Olajengbesi.

According to a statement made available to Sunday PUNCH on Friday, the endorsement came during a town hall meeting held at the council’s headquarters in Iloko-Ijesa on Thursday, attended by traditional rulers, community leaders, residents, Olajengbesi and his wife.

Olajengbesi is contesting on the platform of the Accord Party.

The statement said the council, led by the Elegboro of Ijebu-Ijesa, Oba Olufemi Agunsoye, expressed confidence in Olajengbesi’s ability to effectively represent the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency in the National Assembly if elected.

Speaking on behalf of the council, the Olowena of Owena-Ijesa, Oba Ayelabola Oladoyinbo, offered prayers for the aspirant and his wife and declared support for his bid.

“Your aspiration for the House of Representatives in the 2027 election is a done deal. We believe you have what it takes to excel, and you will excel and make us proud,” the monarch said.

Olajengbesi, an indigene of Ijebu-Ijesa in Oriade Local Government Area of the state, is the spokesman for the Imole Campaign Council for the re-election of Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke.

He also serves as the convener of the Imole Grassroots Mobilisation Network in the state.

The legal practitioner, who will turn 40 in August, previously contested for the Oriade/Obokun Federal Constituency seat in 2019.

He is seeking to unseat the incumbent lawmaker, Wole Oke of the All Progressives Congress, who has represented the constituency in the House of Representatives for 24 years.

Addressing the gathering, Olajengbesi said the constituency required vibrant youth representation and a departure from what he described as the recycling of old ideas.

He pledged to provide effective representation and pursue programmes that would promote development across the constituency if elected in the 2027 general elections.
