Osun Football Association appeals to deputy governor for assistance in preventing local clubs from being demoted.

The Osun State Chairman of the Nigeria Football Association is urging the government to take immediate action to prevent the relegation of the two state-owned teams, citing a dire need for intervention.

Osun United, which competes in the Nationwide League, is currently seventh in Group B, a ten-team division, and faces relegation unless its performance improves in upcoming matches.

The team's situation is precarious, with only three teams to be relegated from the group, and Osun United is presently among those at risk of being demoted.

Meanwhile, Osun Babes, the female team participating in the Women’s Premier League, is also experiencing difficulties and may be relegated to a lower division due to a series of disappointing results.

According to anonymous sources within Osun United, who chose not to be named as they were not authorised to discuss the matter, the team must secure victories in its next three games to remain in the Nationwide League.

Sola Fanawopo, the Chairman of the Osun FA, has stressed the importance of prompt government intervention, specifically calling for the involvement of Deputy Governor Kola Adewusi, who also serves as the State Commissioner for Sports.

Fanawopo's statement, signed by Seyi Akaani, the media officer of the association, and obtained in Osogbo on Thursday, appeals to Adewusi to take urgent action to prevent the teams' relegation.

He highlighted that both state-owned teams are struggling with relegation in their respective leagues due to inadequate support, poor welfare, and declining operational standards, necessitating the Deputy Governor's immediate attention.

Fanawopo emphasised the need for Adewusi to adopt a hands-on approach, including visiting player hostels, inspecting team buses, and attending matches to grasp the severity of the situation.

The current state of player welfare has had a detrimental impact on morale and performance, putting both teams at risk, according to Fanawopo.

He has called for swift and decisive action to stabilise the teams, enhance welfare conditions, and preserve Osun State's football status.
