Osun Assembly passes bill to end multiple ticketing in motor parks

The Osun State House of Assembly on Wednesday said it passed the Osun State Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management System Bill, 2026

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the Speaker, Tiamiyu Olamide, obtained in Osogbo indicated that the bill was sponsored by the Chairman, House Committee on Works and Transport, Abiola Waheed.

Giving other features of the bill, Tiamiyu said it was an Integrated Regulation, Registration, Management and Digital Administration of Commercial Transportation, Traffic, Motor Parks, Terminals, Garages, Loading Points and related Transport Infrastructure in the state.

“A major objective of the legislation is the introduction of a digitalised ticketing system designed to eliminate the practice of multiple ticketing in motor parks.

“The initiative is expected to reduce unnecessary burdens on transport operators, promote transparency and improve the efficiency of revenue collection for the State Government.

n

“The Bill also seeks to strengthen the protection of passengers and other users of motor parks, promote sanity and accountability within the transport sector, and enhance the State’s internally generated revenue through a coordinated and transparent park management system,” the statement said

In their various submissions during the day’s plenary, the Bill was subjected to extensive deliberation by members of the House at the Committee of the Whole.

Tiamiyu added that the Bill was committed to the House Committee on Works and Transport and the Legal Department of the House for further scrutiny and necessary review.

“Upon completion of the review, the report of the Committee was presented before the House and adopted following a motion moved by the Majority Leader, Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Adewumi, and seconded by Hon. Sikiru Bajepade,” the statement read partly

The Speaker, Adewale, directed that the members go through the clean copy of the Bill.

“Subsequently, the Majority Leader, Hon. Babajide Kofoworola Adewumi, moved the motion for the Third Reading and passage of the Bill, which was seconded by Hon. Taofiq Olayiwola.

“The motion was considered and adopted by the House, leading to the passage of the Osun State Integrated Transport, Traffic and Park Management Bill, 2026,” he said.

Addressing the lawmakers, the Speaker, Adewale Egbedun, said the Bill’s passage marked another step by the Osun State House of Assembly towards strengthening the transport sector, promoting orderly and efficient management of motor parks, protecting commuters and improving transparency in revenue generation.

The Speaker said the legislation will provide a clearer regulatory framework for the management of motor parks, while promoting a more organised relationship among transport operators, passengers and relevant government agencies.

“The clean copy of the Bill will now be forwarded to the Executive Governor of Osun State for his assent, in accordance with the constitutional procedure for the enactment of legislation,” Tiamiyu said.

The PUNCH earlier reported that the Osun State House of Assembly proposed a bill to establish a Park Management System aimed at ensuring orderliness and safety in motor parks across the state.

The proposed Osun State Park Management System Bill was presented during Monday’s plenary by the Chairman of the House Committee on Works and Transport, Abiola Waheed, who is also the sponsor of the private member’s bill.

Waheed said the bill sought to establish a structured management system for motor parks across the state, adding that it would regulate revenue collection and block leakages in the state’s internally generated revenue.

According to him, the proposed legislation would also prohibit thuggery and other violent activities in motor parks if passed into law.
