Only God, Tinubu know what will happen in 2027 – Galadima

A chieftain of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, Buba Galadima, has said only God and President Bola Tinubu know what will happen in the 2027 presidential election.

Galadima spoke on Thursday during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today, where he discussed the NDC’s preparations for the election and the party’s presidential ticket of Peter Obi and Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.

Asked whether he expected the election to be free and fair, Galadima expressed doubts, alleging that recent developments involving opposition politicians had raised concerns ahead of the poll.

“If you are dealing with criminals and fraudsters like these ones we have, you can’t be sure of anything.

“Only God and Tinubu know what will happen to this election,” he said.

Galadima also alleged that opposition politicians and supporters had faced coordinated attacks, citing incidents in Enugu, an incident involving Obi in Benue State and an incident involving an African Democratic Congress governorship candidate in Kaduna.

Despite his concerns, the NDC chieftain expressed confidence in the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket, saying the pair would win if the election was conducted freely, fairly and transparently.

“Obi and Kwankwaso will win this election if it is free, fair and transparent, unless somebody decides to use the machinery of government and take it away from them,” he said.

Galadima disclosed that he is the chairman of the coordinating strategic committee for Obi and Kwankwaso and said the committee was working to harmonise their political blueprints.

According to him, the former Anambra and Kano governors bring different political experiences and areas of strength to the ticket.

“Peter Obi may be more conversant with issues in Anambra, more than Kwankwaso. And Kwankwaso may be conversant with certain issues in Kano, more than Obi. So they complement each other in every move,” he said.

Galadima said the proposed administration would not be divided between supporters of the two politicians, describing the ticket as a “healing ticket” for Nigeria.

“We are not going to run a divided government of one belonging to Kwankwaso, one belonging to Peter Obi. No, we are running a Nigerian government. That is why we called this ticket a healing ticket for Nigeria,” he said.

He identified national unity, public confidence in government and security as some of the issues the ticket would prioritise if elected.

He added that the proposed government would pursue security measures aimed at enabling Nigerians to carry out their daily activities without fear.

Galadima also criticised the reported gathering of academics who publicly declared support for Tinubu, arguing that they should not subsequently be recruited to serve in the election.

He further argued that the opposition’s strategy for the 2027 election would not necessarily require all opposition parties to field a single candidate against Tinubu, saying the parties could pursue their political arrangements within the existing legal framework.
