Ondo monarch urges indigenes in diaspora to invest

The Deji of Akure Kingdom, Ondo State, Oba Aladetoyinbo Aladelusi, has called on indigenes of the community at home and abroad to contribute to the development of the state capital by investing in the town.

The first-class monarch said investing in the community would further expand the town and generate employment opportunities for the teeming youths.

Oba Aladelusi made the appeal at the official inauguration of Baseline Event Centre in Akure on Sunday.

“I have always been appealing to our Akure indigenes in diaspora to come and invest at home to develop this community. I’m happy that we have good things happening in this town, Akure is growing everyday in terms of development.

“You can see that Akure is expanding but I want to appeal to our sons and daughters who are outside to invest in the town, I can assure them that Akure is safe, their investments are safe, they should come home to invest. Apart contributing to the development, employment opportunities would also be available if we have many investments.”

Oba Aladelusi also commended the management of the Baseline Event Centre for investing in the community, promising that the palace would always support such initiatives.

In his remarks, the Managing Director of the event centre, Olusegun Odemakinwa, said one of the most important reasons for locating the centre in Akure was to contribute to employment and economic activity in the city.

He said, “A project like this goes beyond the people directly employed by the event center.

“As Baseline grows, we expect to create opportunities for young people and professionals across different areas of the events and hospitality ecosystem.

n

“Our intention is to deliberately create opportunities for people in Akure and its environs, particularly young people who are looking for a platform to develop their skills, earn an income and build sustainable careers.

n

“Wherever possible, we will also seek to work with local businesses and service providers. Because when Baseline succeeds, we want that success to travel beyond these walls.

“We want the photographer to benefit. We want the decorator to benefit. We want the caterer, the driver, the security personnel, the technician and the young professional to benefit. That is how an investment becomes part of a community.”

He stressed that the institution would not only be an institution in the Ondo State capital but would also contribute to its development, declaring that “We want to be an institution that contributes to Akure.”
