Oluremi Tinubu launches renal care facility, medical innovation institute in Jigawa State

Nigeria's First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, unveiled a state-of-the-art health centre and academy in Hadejia, Jigawa State, on Monday, aiming to bolster efforts in detecting and preventing chronic kidney disease at an early stage.

The cutting-edge clinic, constructed and fully equipped by the FutureMap Foundation and eHealth Africa, is situated on Garun Gabas Road in Hadejia and has been named the Oluremi Tinubu Clinic in recognition of the First Lady's tireless commitment to supporting underserved communities.

The Bola Ahmed Tinubu Academy, the second project, was established by the Federal Government through the National Information Technology Development Agency, marking a significant milestone in the country's healthcare landscape.

Senator Tinubu's inauguration of the clinic and academy in Hadejia comes just weeks after President Bola Tinubu launched the National Health Technology and Data Analytics Office, underscoring the government's focus on leveraging technology to improve healthcare outcomes.

During the inauguration ceremony, Senator Tinubu praised the collaborative effort behind the projects, noting that the facilities are dedicated to the early detection and prevention of chronic kidney disease, particularly among vulnerable populations.

The First Lady reiterated her passion for empowering underserved communities, expressing gratitude to FutureMap Foundation and eHealth Africa for building and equipping the clinic in her name, and emphasizing that health is a valuable asset and prevention is a lifesaver.

Senator Tinubu also commended the establishment of the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Academy under NITDA, highlighting its potential to train young people and healthcare workers in using technology to address health challenges.

She noted that the academy and clinic will work in tandem to protect families from chronic kidney disease, developing innovative solutions for early detection and prevention.

According to the Director-General of NITDA, Kashiful Inuwa, the academy represents a significant breakthrough in health innovation, driven by the Federal Government's commitment to harnessing research, data, and technology to improve healthcare outcomes.

Inuwa explained that the academy and clinic are designed to function as a unified platform, developing digital tools and early warning systems to enable communities to detect and respond to chronic kidney disease promptly.

The launch of the projects coincides with the establishment of the National Health Technology and Data Analytics Office, positioning Jigawa State to take the lead in health technology solutions for Nigerians, according to Inuwa.

Governor Umar Namadi praised the First Lady for the clinic, academy, and the launch of the National Community Food Bank Programme, thanking her and the project partners for bringing healthcare and technology closer to the people of Jigawa State.

The governor described the National Community Food Bank Programme for the North-West, also launched in Jigawa, as a major milestone in the state's fight against food insecurity and malnutrition.

During her one-day official visit to Jigawa State, Senator Tinubu inaugurated several landmark projects executed by the Jigawa State and Federal Governments in the Hadejia Emirate, marking a significant step forward in the country's efforts to improve the lives of vulnerable Nigerians.

The visit culminated in renewed commitments by the Federal and Jigawa State governments to deepen their collaboration on healthcare, food security, and social protection, with the new clinic and academy expected to play a pivotal role in driving progress in these areas.
