Olubadan nominates three Mogajis

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has nominated three Mogajis as part of moves to fill vacancies created in the traditional hierarchy following the death of a High Chief and some other chiefs.

The nominations were made in consultation with the Olubadan-in-Council, according to a statement issued by the Administrative Secretary, Olubadan-in-Line Traditional Chiefs, Sanusi Akinkunmi, and made available to PUNCH Online on Monday.

The nominated Mogajis are the publisher of The Street Journal Newspaper, businessman and philanthropist, Wole Arisekola, Kabiru Makinde and Charles Durosaro.

The statement noted that the nominations followed the “glorious exit to glory of a High Chief and other chiefs”, which had created vacancies in the lines of succession within the Olubadan traditional system.

It added that the nomination for one remaining vacant position would be decided and announced in due course.

The administration said further directives would be issued by the Olubadan regarding the date and arrangements for the official installation ceremony.

The statement read, “Following the glorious exit to glory of a High Chief and some other Chiefs, some positions in the lines of succession have become vacant.

“In preparation for filling these vacancies, His Imperial Majesty, the Olubadan of Ibadanland, in consultation with the Olubadan-in-Council, has nominated three Mogajis. They are Mogaji Kabiru Ademola Makinde, Mogaji Charles Durosaro, Mogaji Wole Arisekola

“The nomination for the remaining one vacant position shall be decided and announced in due course.

“We await further directives from Kabiyesi regarding the date and arrangements for the official installation ceremony.”

The latest nominations come against the backdrop of Ibadan’s distinctive traditional chieftaincy structure, in which Mogajis, who traditionally head family compounds, form an important part of the succession process to higher traditional titles.

The Olubadan-in-Council plays a key role in the traditional administration and succession arrangements of Ibadanland, with chiefs progressing through established lines and ranks towards the Olubadan throne.
