Olubadan Establishes Panel to Merge Conventional and Herbal Practices

The Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, has launched a committee to oversee the integration of traditional and orthodox medicine, with the goal of enhancing healthcare delivery through a combined approach.

This development took place on Wednesday at the Olubadan Palace in Oke Aremo, Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, where the committee was officially inaugurated in the committee room.

Oba Ladoja, speaking through the Director-General of the Olubadan Palace, Basiru Olanrewaju, emphasized that the integration of traditional and orthodox medicine is intended to ensure that both systems complement each other for effective healthcare delivery, benefiting not only Ibadanland but the entire nation.

The monarch expressed his belief in the efficacy of traditional medicine, citing personal experience, and stressed the need for both traditional and orthodox medicine to work together to improve healthcare outcomes.

Oba Ladoja urged the committee members, who represent various stakeholders, to work tirelessly to achieve the initiative's objectives, which will ultimately benefit the people.

The committee's membership includes representatives from the Forestry Research Institute of Nigeria, the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, the Olubadan Palace, and researchers in the field of traditional medicine, among others.

To ensure the successful implementation of their assignment, the committee has agreed to hold regular meetings.

It is worth noting that Oba Ladoja first advocated for the integration of traditional medicine with orthodox healthcare on May 14, 2026, as a means of improving healthcare delivery and preserving indigenous medical knowledge.

At the time, the monarch made this call while receiving the executive members of the Pharmaceutical Society of Nigeria, Oyo State branch, at the Olubadan Palace, and his remarks were later made public by his Chief Press Secretary, Gbenga Ayoade.

According to Oba Ladoja, traditional medicine remains an effective, accessible, and affordable option for many Nigerians, and he used the opportunity to advocate for its integration with modern medicine to enhance healthcare delivery before the knowledge of traditional medical practitioners is lost.
