Okoye arrives Super Eagles camp ahead of Madagascar clash

Super Eagles goalkeeper Maduka Okoye has arrived in camp ahead of Nigeria’s 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying clash against Madagascar in Uyo.

The Super Eagles confirmed his arrival in a post on their official X account on Friday, accompanied by a picture of the Udinese goalkeeper.

“Welcome, Maduka,” the team posted.

Okoye was the last player to join Nigeria’s 24-man squad after missing the team’s first two training sessions in Uyo.

His delayed arrival attracted criticism after footage surfaced showing him at Milan Fashion Week, where he represented Udinese and modelled the club’s third kit. He was also seen with American rapper Cardi B during the event.

PUNCH Sports Extra had reported that the Milan appearance came as the goalkeeper remained absent from the Super Eagles’ preparations in Uyo.n

Super Eagles coach Éric Chelle had earlier explained that Udinese requested that Okoye remain with the Italian club for some activities before joining the national team.

The goalkeeper’s arrival leaves Chelle with his full goalkeeping options of Okoye, Stanley Nwabali and Arthur Okonkwo ahead of Friday’s clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium.

Nigeria will face Madagascar at 5pm on Friday in their opening Group L fixture of the 2027 AFCON qualifiers.
