The National Universities Commission has given its seal of approval to four postgraduate programmes at McPherson University in Ogun State, effective from the upcoming 2026/2027 academic session.
nA letter dated June 19, signed by Abubakar Girei, Director of Academic Planning, on behalf of the Executive Secretary, outlined the terms of the approval, stating that the programmes will be offered on a full-time basis at the university's main campus.
nThe Commission's approval was preceded by a resource verification visit to the university, where a panel of experts assessed the availability of human and material resources for the proposed postgraduate programmes.
nThe approved programmes comprise Postgraduate Diploma, Master of Science, Master of Philosophy, and Doctor of Philosophy in four key areas: Mass Communication, Microbiology, Business Management, and History and Diplomatic Studies.
nThe NUC has instructed McPherson University to notify the commission before commencing the part-time mode of any of the approved programmes, to facilitate further processing.
nThe commission has also warned the university against making any changes to the approved programme titles and nomenclature, emphasizing that any such alterations would require its explicit approval.
nFurthermore, the NUC has urged McPherson University to ensure the provision of adequate human and material resources to support the development and growth of the newly approved programmes.
