Ogun female residents get N35m funding boost, pledge support for Tinubu's second term bid

The Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Adijat Adeleye, unveiled a N35 million cash grant disbursement to women statewide on Monday.

This initiative, designed to bolster women's livelihoods, saw 50 women receive N200,000 each, while an additional 500 beneficiaries were awarded N50,000 each.

The commissioner made this announcement during the special celebration of this year's International Women's Day, held at the Ojude Oba Pavilion in Ijebu Ode.

The event, attended by prominent figures including the state governor's wife, Mrs Bamidele Abiodun, and the Deputy Governor, Noimot Salako-Oyedele, also featured an endorsement of President Bola Tinubu's re-election bid by women in the state.

The women in attendance further declared their support for Governor Dapo Abiodun's aspiration to contest the Ogun East senatorial seat in 2027, following the completion of his second term in office.

Adeleye noted that this year's International Women's Day celebration was particularly historic, coinciding as it did with the 50th anniversary of Ogun State's creation.

She observed that, over the past five decades, women in the state have played a central role in development, building stable families, driving commerce, and increasingly occupying leadership positions in governance and public life.

The commissioner paid tribute to notable women, including the late Chief Funmilayo Ransome-Kuti, Bola Kuforiji-Olubi, and Iyalode Alaba Lawson, describing them as trailblazers who paved the way for future generations of women leaders.

Adeleye stated that the 2026 International Women's Day theme, 'Give to Gain,' highlights the importance of sacrifice, service, and intentional investment in one another to achieve meaningful progress.

She emphasized that, by giving their time, resources, and support, women can create pathways for shared prosperity and lasting impact, underscoring the need for collective effort to secure greater gains for women and society at large.

In Ogun State, Adeleye noted that significant strides have been made in expanding women's participation in governance and improving access to economic opportunities, with policies in place to safeguard their rights and dignity.

Adeleye urged women to remain united and support the re-election bid of President Tinubu, as well as Governor Abiodun's future political aspirations, in order to sustain their rightful place in the current political landscape.

The commissioner explained that the N200,000 and N50,000 cash grants being disbursed to women are intended to positively impact their livelihoods, demonstrating the state government's commitment to women's empowerment.

Deputy Governor Salako-Oyedele led other women at the event in endorsing President Tinubu's second-term bid and Governor Abiodun's plan to represent Ogun East Senatorial District in 2027.

Salako-Oyedele praised President Tinubu's strong commitment to empowering women, citing the need for women to support his re-election to build on the achievements of his administration.

She encouraged women to actively participate in politics, aiming to increase female representation in governance and decision-making processes.
