Ogun APC gaining ground as former lawmaker claims it's poaching PDP strongholds every day

A former member of the House of Representatives and chieftain of the All Progressives Congress in Ogun State, Kayode Oladele, has said the ruling party is steadily attracting members and structures from the Peoples Democratic Party and other opposition parties in the state ahead of the 2027 governorship election.

Oladele said the growing political coalition around the APC governorship candidate, Senator Solomon Adeola, popularly called Yayi, was driving the realignment and expanding the party’s support base across the state.

The APC chieftain, in a statement made available to our correspondent on Saturday, said the steady movement of politicians and their supporters from the opposition parties into the APC party was evidence of a wider political realignment taking place across the state.

“The political realignment we are witnessing across Ogun State is the outcome of sustained engagement and deliberate bridge building. Those who think they understand the political strength that is quietly gathering around Senator Yayi are in for a rude shock.

“Adeola is consolidating the APC and, at the same time, reaching beyond the boundaries of the party. The defections we have seen so far are only a glimpse of what is coming. The political landscape is changing and the opposition knows it,” Oladele said.

According to him, the senator has devoted considerable time to meeting political leaders, community stakeholders and grassroots organisers, including individuals who previously belonged to or worked actively for opposition parties.

He said the APC candidate’s willingness to engage people irrespective of their previous political affiliations had helped to build trust and open new channels of political cooperation.

Oladele added that Adeola’s political reach across Ogun West, Ogun Central and Ogun East had made it difficult for his opponents to portray his candidacy as sectional.

According to him, the senator’s interventions in communities across the state had created relationships that were now translating into political support.
