Ogogo’s death monumental loss to creative, entertaiment industry – Yayi

The All Progressives Congress governorship candidate for Ogun State and Senator representing Ogun West, Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, has expressed sadness over the death of veteran actor Taiwo Hassan, popularly known as Ogogo, who died after battling cancer.

In a condolence message to the family of the late actor, signed by the senator’s Media Adviser, Chief Kayode Odunaro, and made available to journalists on Sunday, Adeola described Hassan’s death as “a monumental loss to the creative and entertainment industry.”

He stressed that the actor’s death was a loss to his family, Ogun State and Nigeria as a whole.

“I am greatly saddened by the death of a brother who believed and worked assiduously for my cause and the cause of our people. I sympathise with his immediate family for their efforts and struggles to keep the dearly departed alive following his illness. God knows best in all circumstances,” the senator stated.

Adeola said the late actor’s contributions to the drive for a better society through filmmaking and other positive advocacy would always be remembered, adding that he left a legacy worthy of emulation.

The senator also promised to continue supporting the immediate family in their hour of need, adding that the good deeds of the family’s patriarch would not be forgotten.

Adeola prayed for the peaceful repose of the soul of the thespian and for the immediate family to have the fortitude to bear the loss.

PUNCH Online reports that news of the actor’s death was confirmed by multiple sources, including the founder of Best of Nollywood, Seun Oloketuyi.

Oloketuyi announced the death in a social media post, writing, “Taiwo Hassan Ogogo is dead. He finally lost the battle of life.”

Ogogo’s daughter, Kaira Taiwo, was also seen crying during a live session on Instagram on Sunday, where she expressed disbelief over her father’s death.

Nigerian actor and filmmaker, Saheed Balogun, also mourned the veteran actor in an Instagram post.

“Inna lillahi wa inna ilayhi raji’un. You can rest now, my brother Taiwo Hassan Ogogo. May Almighty Allah guide you through Aljannah. This is truly painful,” Balogun wrote.

The actor’s death came days after his daughters, Kaira and Lima Taiwo, appealed for medical assistance for their father, who had been battling stage-four cancer.

On Monday, August 17, 2026, the sisters took to social media to seek medical advice and assistance for the actor.

According to Kaira, doctors had informed the family that they could no longer administer chemotherapy because of his condition.

The family subsequently sought alternative treatment options, including specialised medical procedures and traditional remedies.

Ogogo was a prominent figure in the Nigerian film industry, particularly known for his contributions to Yoruba-language films.
