OAU debunks bogus notice, confirms students remain on autumn holiday.

The management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has warned students and members of the public to disregard a purported resumption notice currently circulating on social media, describing it as fake and unauthorised.

In a statement issued on Friday, the institution’s Public Relations Officer, Abiodun Olarewaju, said the university was still observing the three-week mid-semester break approved by the Senate.

According to the statement, the fake letter was falsely presented as having been issued and signed by the Registrar of the university.

Olarewaju stated that the document did not emanate from the Office of the Registrar or any authorised organ of the institution, adding that the signature appended to it was forged.

“The attention of the Management of Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, has been drawn to the circulation of a fake letter purportedly issued and signed by the Registrar of the University in respect of the ongoing three-week mid-semester break approved by the University Senate,” the statement read.

He described the document as the handiwork of “mischief makers and agents of confusion” aimed at misleading members of the university community and creating unnecessary tension.

“The content is not only false and highly malicious, but also satanic in intent, reckless in conception and condemnable in its entirety,” he added.

The university spokesperson advised students, parents, guardians, alumni, staff and other stakeholders to ignore the purported notice, insisting that it had no approval or legitimacy from the institution.

Olarewaju said the university management remained committed to transparency, peace, orderliness and the welfare of members of the university community.

He added that official information from the university would always be disseminated through recognised and verified communication channels.

The institution also urged stakeholders to remain calm, law-abiding and vigilant against the spread of misinformation.
