NSCIA convenes prayer for peace, stability

The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs will hold a special national prayer for the peace, stability and progress of Nigeria on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at the Abuja National Mosque Complex.

The prayer, convened under the leadership of the President-General of the NSCIA and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, will be held from 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm.

This was contained in a statement issued on Tuesday by the Council’s Public Affairs Officer, Abbas Jimoh.

The council said the prayer was intended to “provide an opportunity for Muslims to collectively seek Allah’s guidance, protection, peace and blessings for the country and its citizenry.”

The NSCIA also announced that its General Assembly would be held at the same venue on Thursday, October 1, beginning at 10 am.

The council described the General Assembly as “the highest decision-making organ of the NSCIA” and “the largest gathering of the Council.”

The assembly comprises the Sultan of Sokoto; the Deputy President-General (North) and Shehu of Borno, Alhaji Abubakar ibn Umar Garbai El-Kanemi; the Deputy President-General (South), Alhaji Rasaki Oladejo; the Secretary-General, Prof. Is-haq Olanrewaju Oloyede; and the Deputy Secretary-General, Prof. Salisu Shehu.

It will also comprise Muslim public office holders, including governors, members of the National Assembly, ministers, heads of government agencies and chief executive officers, as well as representatives of the 36 State Councils for Islamic Affairs and the Federal Capital Territory.

Representatives of Islamic organisations, members of the General Purpose Committee and the Expanded General Purpose Committee of the NSCIA, as well as prominent Muslim personalities from across Nigeria, are also expected to participate.

According to the statement, the General Assembly “serves as a broad platform for consultation, reflection and consideration of issues affecting the Council, the Muslim Ummah and the Nation at large.”

The council called on invited members, representatives and stakeholders to make adequate arrangements to participate in and contribute to the success of the two-day programme.

It also urged Muslims across Nigeria to use the occasion to pray for continued peace, unity, security, good governance and sustainable development in the country.

The NSCIA reiterated its commitment to promoting unity among Muslims, fostering peaceful coexistence and supporting efforts towards the stability and progress of Nigeria.
