NRS Academy Set to Launch Online Education Portal

The Nigeria Revenue Service Academy will on May 20 unveil a digital Learning Experience Platform to modernise staff training.

The initiative is designed to shift the Service away from periodic classroom sessions towards a technology-driven, continuous learning model.

The Academy’s director, Adeolu Akinyemi, disclosed this in a statement on Wednesday.

n

“The platform represents a major shift from traditional, classroom-based training to a modern, technology-driven learning ecosystem designed to support continuous professional development, performance improvement and career growth,” he said.

Akinyemi said the platform would deliver content through microlearning modules, scenario-based exercises, gamified experiences and interactive simulations, allowing staff to learn in short, practical sessions at their own pace.

He said the system would also incorporate a digital reward economy featuring experience points, virtual coins and digital badges, with leaderboards tracking and ranking performance across directorates, departments, regions and individual staff members.

“Learning will no longer be seen as a periodic obligation but as a continuous, self-driven process that is practical, engaging and rewarding,” Akinyemi said.

He added that the platform would empower staff to take ownership of their learning paths, track their progress and access training content on demand, irrespective of location.

Akinyemi said the Academy would use the platform to identify candidates for promotions, specialised assignments and international opportunities, based on competence scores and learning activity recorded within the system.

“The introduction of a digital reward economy, including a marketplace for redeemable benefits, will further incentivise participation and learning consistency among staff,” he said.

On activities ahead of the launch, Akinyemi said the Academy would conduct sensitisation campaigns, onboarding sessions, pilot programmes and demonstration exercises to prepare staff for the rollout.

He said the platform was expected to enhance knowledge transfer, strengthen operational readiness and improve overall service delivery within the Service.

“The objective is to build a workforce that learns continuously, adapts quickly and applies knowledge effectively,” Akinyemi said.

He added that the new system would contribute to greater transparency and fairness in access to opportunities, as learning achievements and performance would be visible across the organisation.

Akinyemi described the launch as part of the Nigeria Revenue Service’s broader agenda to build a technology-enabled, efficient and globally competitive institution.

He said it marked a significant milestone in the Service’s ongoing reform efforts to modernise tax administration and human capital development.
