Northwest varsity sets 2026/2027 admission cut-off marks

The Northwest University, Sokoto, has released the approved cut-off marks for admission into its undergraduate programmes for the 2026/2027 academic session, with Medicine and Surgery emerging as the most competitive course at 200 points.

The university said most programmes were fixed at a minimum score of 150, while professional and health-related courses attracted higher benchmarks in line with academic and regulatory requirements.

In a statement issued on Thursday, the Director of Communications, Public Affairs and Protocol, Abdallah el-Kurebe, said the cut-off marks were approved by the university’s Admissions Unit ahead of the commencement of admission processes for the new academic session.

According to him, the university fixed 200 as the minimum score for Medicine and Surgery, the highest among all programmes offered by the institution.

“El-Kurebe explained that the approved cut-off marks reflect the university’s commitment to maintaining academic standards while also expanding access to quality higher education,” the statement said.

He added that Common and Islamic Law was placed at 180, while Medical Laboratory Science, Nursing Science, Doctor of Physiotherapy, Public Health, and Radiography were each fixed at 160.

Other programmes with a minimum cut-off mark of 150 include Accounting, Biology, Business Administration, Computer Science, Cyber Security, Economics, Information Technology, Library and Information Science, Psychology, Public Administration, Sociology, Software Engineering, and Special Education.

The spokesman urged prospective candidates seeking admission into the institution to carefully study the approved benchmarks and ensure they meet the requirements before applying.

He also advised candidates to monitor the university’s official communication channels for further details on admission guidelines, screening procedures, and application timelines.

Northwest University, Sokoto, is one of the emerging public universities in Nigeria’s North-West region, offering programmes across sciences, health sciences, social sciences, management sciences, education, and law.

In recent years, Nigerian universities have continued to adjust admission benchmarks in response to competition for limited spaces, performance trends in the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination conducted by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board, and the growing demand for professional courses such as Medicine, Nursing, and Law.
