North East Development Commission Clarifies Creation of Large-Scale Educational Facilities in Adamawa State

The North East Development Commission has shed light on the educational advantages of establishing mega schools in Adamawa State's three senatorial districts, with the primary goal of narrowing the educational disparity between rural and urban areas.

According to Alhaji Khalifa Lawan, the Adamawa State Coordinator of the NEDC, education occupies the fourth position among the commission's 11 development pillars, which aim to recover and renew the region through the reconstruction of educational facilities damaged by years of conflict in the North-East region of Nigeria.

Lawan revealed that the commission is constructing modern schools in various senatorial districts, including Guyuk, Song, and Mubi South, to ensure equal access to quality education, and is also providing fully equipped classrooms, administrative offices, staff quarters, and independent utilities such as solar power and boreholes.

The design of these mega schools addresses the issue of student absenteeism and teacher truancy by providing staff quarters, electricity, clinics, water, and other facilities that cater to the needs of both students and staff, Lawan explained.

He noted that the mega schools built by the NEDC are designed to resemble private universities, with fantastic student hostels, and offer all the necessary amenities on campus to ensure maximum comfort for both students and staff.

Lawan emphasized that quality education is essential for meaningful development in any country, as it enables citizens to appreciate the importance of facilities provided by the government and other agencies, and to make informed decisions.

He pointed out that many youths who vandalize public property do so out of ignorance, citing the example of someone cutting down poles for solar-powered streetlights that are meant to provide security and boost small businesses in the area.

The commission is taking deliberate steps to promote education in rural areas, ensuring that children from poor backgrounds have access to quality education without having to relocate to cities, Lawan said.

By locating mega schools in the three senatorial districts of Adamawa State, the commission is sending a clear message that quality education is available to all citizens, regardless of their location, Lawan added.

He specifically mentioned that the mega school in the Southern Senatorial District is located in Guyuk Local Government Area, which is far from Yola, the state capital, while another mega school is located in Song Local Government Area in the Central Senatorial District, and Mubi South, also far from the state capital.

Lawan urged residents of communities where the NEDC has built mega schools to protect these facilities, as they are crucial for the education and future of their children.
