Nollywood star Genevieve Nnaji makes acting comeback in BBC Studios' suspenseful drama 'Wahala

Genevieve Nnaji, a renowned Nollywood actress and filmmaker, is poised to make a comeback on screen in Wahala, a gripping drama series produced by BBC Studios.
nThis six-part thriller, adapted from a work by BAFTA-nominated writer Theresa Ikoko, will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer and broadcast on BBC One.
nThe BBC announced the cast on Tuesday, unveiling a female-led lineup that includes Adelayo Adedayo, Deborah Ayorinde, Cush Jumbo, and Susan Wokoma, all of whom will star alongside Nnaji.
nBased on Nikki May's debut novel, the series delves into the lives of four Nigerian-British women as they navigate the complexities of friendship, careers, love, and family in contemporary London, while grappling with the dark secrets of their past.
nThe story revolves around Simi, Boo, and Ronke, played by Adedayo, Jumbo, and Wokoma, respectively, whose tight-knit friendship is disrupted by the arrival of Isobel, portrayed by Ayorinde.
nAccording to the producers, the drama explores themes of betrayal, hidden truths, and the repercussions of long-concealed secrets.
nNnaji expressed her enthusiasm for the project, stating that she is thrilled to be a part of the production and to be working with such a talented team.
nShe remarked, "I'm very happy to be joining Wahala and to be working with such a brilliant team, it's an intriguing story and I'm excited to be a part of it."
nThe project marks one of Nnaji's most significant acting returns in recent years, following the release of Lionheart, her directorial debut, which premiered internationally in 2018 and later streamed on Netflix in January 2019.
nNnaji, widely regarded as one of Nollywood's most influential actresses, has maintained a relatively low public profile in recent years, fueling anticipation among fans over her latest role.
nWahala, which translates to "trouble" in Nigerian Pidgin, is being produced by Firebird Pictures, a company under the BBC Studios umbrella.
