No sane Nigerian would engage in a discussion with Daniel Bwala, according to Aisha Yesufu.

Prominent activist Aisha Yesufu has dismissed Presidential Adviser on Media Daniel Bwala as unworthy of engagement by serious-minded Nigerians.

She made the remarks during an appearance on Channels Television’s Politics Today programme on Thursday.

Yesufu, a co-convener of the #BringBackOurGirls movement, said she would not respond to Bwala’s recent comments targeting opposition figures, instead directing him to Al Jazeera journalist Mehdi Hasan, who had interviewed him in March.

“First of all, there’s no right thinking Nigerian that is going to waste their energy on discussing Daniel Bwala.

“I’m really not going to focus on that. I heard when he was calling my name. I think I will leave him with Mehdi Hasan. That’s someone that knows how to deal with people like Daniel Bwala,” she said.

Her remarks referenced Bwala’s appearance on Al Jazeera’s Head to Head programme, which aired on March 6, 2026, where host Mehdi Hasan confronted him with clips of past statements in which he had criticised President Bola Tinubu before joining his administration as a defender of the “Renewed Hope” agenda.

Yesufu also used the occasion to defend Labour Party’s Peter Obi, who had been criticised by Bwala. She argued that remaining in opposition was not a political weakness, pointing to Tinubu’s own lengthy stint in the opposition before his All Progressives Congress came to power in 2015.

“Even the Mr. Tinubu that he talked about, he has been in opposition. When I remember there’s a particular piece they’re very fond of bringing out when I said he’s the father of opposition.

“And yeah, I mean that because he stayed in opposition until he was able to get into office,”

She acknowledged, however, that Tinubu had changed parties over the years, moving from the Alliance for Democracy through the Action Congress of Nigeria before the merger that formed the APC.

Yesufu said her attention remained fixed on issues of governance rather than government spokespersons.

“My focus really is on the question that is going to move Nigeria forward.

I’m not going to waste my time discussing anything that Daniel Bwala says. Nobody thinks Daniel Bwala is serious,” she said.
