Nigeria's anti-drug agency seizes massive haul of 1.5 million tramadol tablets smuggled in vehicles from Togo

In a significant crackdown on drug trafficking, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency have seized over 1.5 million pills of Tramadol, which were cleverly concealed in two trucks that had entered Nigeria through the Benin Republic border, marking a major setback for drug trafficking syndicates.

This latest interception occurred barely a week after NDLEA officers in Lagos had seized a truck carrying 558,900 pills of tramadol 250mg, which were hidden in a specially constructed false-bottom compartment made of thick iron sheets.

The details of the seizure were disclosed in a statement released by Femi Babafemi, the Director of Media & Advocacy, on Sunday.

According to Babafemi, the agency's intelligence-led operations led to the interception of two additional trucks, which used the same concealment method and route from Togo through the Benin Republic into Nigeria.

The statement highlighted that the latest seizure is a significant blow to the tramadol cartels in Nigeria, as it has blocked a massive supply of over 1.5 million pills meant for delivery to the North.
