Nigeria Set to Clash with Rwanda Again in Upcoming 2026 NCF T20 International Cricket Match

Nigeria's female national cricket team is set to take on Rwanda's in a highly anticipated match at the Tafawa Balewa Square Oval on Tuesday, with the 2026 Nigeria Cricket Federation Women’s Invitational tournament, also known as the Patricia Kambarami Cup, gaining momentum.

As the tournament progresses, Rwanda currently leads the points table with six points, having won all three of their matches, while Nigeria has also secured wins in both of their games played so far.

Newly appointed Female Yellow Greens coach Theophilus Ibodeme is choosing to keep his team's strategy under wraps ahead of the upcoming game, stating that their approach will become clearer as the match unfolds.

Ibodeme revealed to PUNCH Sports Extra that the team's plan has been effective, citing their previous game where they successfully executed their intention to play out all the overs and defend a score of at least 150 runs.

The forthcoming clash between Nigeria and Rwanda will mark their 27th meeting since 2019, with both teams vying for dominance in this year's tournament, and Rwanda having won 13 of their previous encounters, one more than Nigeria's 12 wins.

The two teams have a history of closely contested matches, with one game ending in a tie, and Nigeria's last victory over Rwanda occurring in 2023 when they won the NCF Women’s T20I by nine runs in Lagos.

After losing the title to Tanzania in 2024, the Female Yellow Greens are now focused on reclaiming it, and they began their campaign with a convincing eight-wicket win over Zimbabwe U-19 last Friday.

Nigeria followed up their initial victory with a resounding 136-run win over Ghana on Sunday, with debutants Henrietta Mbam and Favour Effiong impressing coach Ibodeme with their performances, each taking three wickets.

According to Ibodeme, the debutants had already proven themselves in camp, earning their positions in the team, which was evident in their strong display during the game.

In another match scheduled for Tuesday, tournament newcomers Zimbabwe U-19 will face off against South Africa U-19, with South Africa having already secured one win in the tournament, while Zimbabwe seeks their first victory.
