Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps launches initiative to protect educational institutions in Abia State

The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, Abia State Command, has launched a statewide initiative to promote safety and security awareness in schools, targeting students, teachers, and administrative staff across the state.
nThis campaign, dubbed the "School Safety Sensitisation and Reach-Out Programme," aims to educate its audience about emerging security threats, safety guidelines, and the dangers of illicit drug trafficking and consumption, according to Ndukwe Egwu, the command's Head of Media and Public Relations.
nSpeaking on behalf of the State Commandant, Egwu announced the programme's launch, which took place at the command headquarters, and emphasized its importance in fostering a culture of security awareness among students and teachers.
nState Commandant Chukwuemeka Odimba noted that the programme is a strategic effort to build a secure and safe environment, stating, "If we succeed in instilling security consciousness in our children and teachers, the entire society will benefit from it."
nOdimba explained that the programme was initiated following a comprehensive security assessment of educational institutions in the state, including unity schools, colleges of education, polytechnics, and universities.
nThe command is collaborating with the Civil Defence Officers' Wives Association, Abia State chapter, to implement the sensitisation programme, which represents the second phase of a broader plan to secure schools and promote a peaceful learning environment.
nCommandant Odimba praised the association, led by his wife, Lady Ijeoma Odimba, for its commitment to promoting peace and security through various initiatives, including workshops, educational materials, scholarships, and sanitary products for girls.
nAt Comprehensive Secondary School, Umuda, Umezurike Chinyere, the Head of the Safe School Unit, provided students with valuable security tips and self-defence techniques, highlighting the association's role as a reliable partner in the endeavour.
nThe school's Principal, Mrs Ezenwa Ngozi, expressed gratitude to the Abia NSCDC and CDOWA for their thoughtful initiative, which goes beyond mere security provision to building resilient homes and promoting a culture of security awareness and patriotism among students.
nThe team has visited several schools, conducting security sensitisation workshops and making donations, including study materials and sanitary products, to support the educational and personal needs of the students.
nThe CDOWA has also called upon philanthropists, stakeholders, and public-spirited individuals to partner with the association in implementing the project across schools in Abia State, ensuring its success and reach.
