Nigeria Secures Ninth Spot in Overall Medal Count at Commonwealth Games

Nigeria stands out as one of the most accomplished nations in the Commonwealth Games, currently sitting in ninth place on the all-time medal table as the 2026 edition in Glasgow nears its conclusion, with a total of 271 medals to its name, comprising 82 gold, 84 silver, and 105 bronze medals. This impressive haul has earned Nigeria a spot among the exclusive group of nine countries that have surpassed the 250-medal milestone in the history of the Commonwealth Games.

Australia reigns supreme at the top of the all-time standings, boasting an extraordinary 2,604 medals, including a staggering 1,003 gold medals, which underscores its dominance in the Games. England follows closely in second place, with an impressive 2,322 medals, consisting of 773 gold, 783 silver, and 766 bronze medals.

Canada occupies the third spot, with a total of 1,647 medals, including 510 gold, 548 silver, and 589 bronze medals accumulated over the years. New Zealand ranks fourth, with 706 medals to its name, ahead of India, which has secured 564 medals, comprising 203 gold, 190 silver, and 171 bronze medals.

Scotland, South Africa, and Wales complete the top eight, with 502, 416, and 334 medals, respectively, with Nigeria being the highest-ranked nation in West Africa and one of only two African countries in the top 10. Kenya rounds out the top 10, with 258 medals, including 91 gold, 80 silver, and 87 bronze medals.

The historical rankings of the Commonwealth Games are a testament to the enduring dominance of countries like Australia and England, which have collectively won 4,926 medals, accounting for more than half of the total medals won by the top 10 nations.
