National Examinations Council announces outcome of 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination

The National Examination Council has announced the release of the 2026 Basic Education Certificate Examination results, with a total of 186,291 candidates having registered for the exams in 12 subjects.

These examinations took place from 20th April, 2026, to 30th April, 2026, and the acting director of NECO information and Public relations, Azeez Sani, disclosed this information in a statement on Thursday.

In the same statement, Azeez Sani revealed that an award Committee has set a date for the 2026 BECE re-sit examination, as announced by the acting director.

Folake David, the chairperson of the Award Committee and Director, Basic Education, Federal Ministry of Education, expressed her satisfaction with the processes that led to the successful release of the results, while representing the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Alausa.

According to Folake David, the examination results were released after the successful conclusion of the 2026 BECE Award Committee Meeting, which was held at the Council’s Headquarters in Minna, Niger State.

The Award Committee has approved the date and time for the 2026 BECE Re-sit examination, which is scheduled to take place on 22nd and 23rd July, 2026, for Mathematics and English Studies.

The BECE Re-sit examination is specifically designed for candidates who have conditional deficiencies in either Mathematics or English Studies, or both, allowing them to address these shortcomings.

By taking the Re-sit examination, affected candidates can remedy their deficiencies in mathematics and English Studies, thereby gaining the necessary certification for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School (SSS1) without having to repeat a full academic year.

The BECE is an examination conducted by NECO for pupils completing the nine-year Basic Education programme in Nigeria, serving as a crucial assessment for admission and placement into Senior Secondary School.
