Nasarawa Assembly confirms eight commissioner nominees

The Nasarawa State House of Assembly has screened and confirmed eight commissioner nominees forwarded by Governor Abdullahi Sule.

The Speaker of the House, Danladi Jatau, disclosed this after the screening and confirmation of the nominees during plenary in Lafia, the state capital, on Wednesday.

Jatau congratulated the nominees on their appointments and urged them to uphold integrity and accountability if eventually sworn in as commissioners.

The confirmed nominees are Muhammad Habeeb Nagogo from Wamba Local Government Area; Ahmed Yakubu Mohammed from Lafia; and Mohammed Baba Shehu from Keffi.

Others are Mohammed Iyimoga Oyigye from Obi; Adamu Rabecca Kpadji from Wamba; Nawani Aboki from Doma; Jibril Abdullahi Ibrahim, FCNA, from Nasarawa; and Ashefo Daniel Paul, PhD, from Lafia Local Government Area.

The Speaker directed the Clerk of the House to communicate the resolution of the Assembly to the governor for further action.

Earlier, the Majority Leader of the House, Suleiman Azara, moved the motion for the confirmation of the nominees, which was seconded by the Minority Leader, Luka Zhekaba.

The House unanimously confirmed the nominees after lawmakers representing their respective local government areas spoke in their favour.

Assembly passes animal health college bill for first reading

In a related development, the Assembly passed a bill seeking to establish the College of Animal Health and Production Technology, Obi, and for other matters connected with it, for first reading.

The bill was sponsored by Ibrahim Peter Akwe, member representing Obi I Constituency and Chairman of the House Committee on Agriculture.

Akwe moved the motion for the bill to scale first reading, while Esson Mairiga seconded it.

The bill was subsequently passed unanimously for first reading.
