Napoli striker Osimhen recovers from operation following painful setback in Liverpool match

Victor Osimhen, the striker for Galatasaray, underwent a successful surgical procedure on Monday, following an injury he sustained during the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 away match against Liverpool.

The injury occurred during the second-leg match at Anfield on March 18, when Osimhen collided with Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konaté in an aerial challenge.

Osimhen showed remarkable determination by attempting to continue playing with a bandaged arm, but the swelling and pain eventually forced him to be substituted at halftime.

Galatasaray ultimately suffered a 4-0 defeat that night, resulting in their exit from the competition with a 1-4 aggregate score.

In a statement released on X, the club confirmed the operation, stating that Victor Osimhen, who was injured during the away match against Liverpool, underwent a successful operation at Maslak Acıbadem Hospital, performed by the club's doctor, Op. Dr. Yener İnce.

The statement also expressed the club's well-wishes for Osimhen's speedy recovery, hoping he can return to the pitch as soon as possible.

Despite their exit from the Champions League, Galatasaray will continue to rely on Osimhen's attacking skills in their pursuit of the Super Lig and domestic cup titles.

Osimhen has made significant contributions this season, scoring 19 goals and providing seven assists in 29 appearances across all competitions, helping the club maintain a four-point lead in the league.

He also had an impressive run in the UEFA Champions League, recording seven goals and three assists in 10 matches before Galatasaray's exit from the competition.

Osimhen has been omitted from Nigeria's 23-man squad for the upcoming friendly matches against Jordan and Iran, scheduled to take place in Turkey this month.
