Could you tell us briefly about your background?

n

My name is Nurudeen Adebule Gbadegesin, a native of Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State. I am a visual artist, comedian and master of ceremonies. I am currently the studio manager of Ogun State Television, Abeokuta. I also present two weekly programmes, Omo Ode Oni, a couples’ television programme, and Nifaaji, a Yoruba entertainment programme.

How long have you been married?

n

My marriage journey spans over 25 years. My first marriage lasted 25 years before we both decided to part ways. I later remarried, and on August 14, 2026, my wife and I will celebrate four years together in love. It has been a beautiful journey filled with love, understanding and memorable moments.

How did you meet your wife?

n

It was a memorable day for me. About six years ago, we met in front of the Federal Medical Centre, Abeokuta, and started a relationship. After getting to know each other better, we eventually agreed to get married.

It happened on a fateful Friday afternoon. I went to withdraw money from an ATM at the hospital, but unfortunately, the machine was not working. I turned back and headed towards the gate where I had parked my car. As I got there, I saw a beautiful ebony lady standing and waiting for a cab. I approached her, and something in me immediately said, “This is the woman you have been looking for.” I believe it was God directing my steps.

How did you propose to her?

n

I proposed to her on her birthday during a surprise birthday celebration I organised with some of my friends. She was extremely happy because she felt that one of her biggest dreams had finally come true.

How did her parents respond to your proposal?

n

It is a long story. At the beginning of our relationship, her parents rejected me because I already had children from my first marriage. It was not easy for either of us, but we both refused to give up on our relationship.

We remained committed to each other until her parents eventually became convinced of our love and intentions. I also promised them that I would never let them down. Today, I am grateful to God because her parents are proud of our marriage.

How many children do you have?

n

I have eight children: four boys and four girls. My youngest child was born in July 2026, and I am very grateful to God for the blessing of my family.

What memories and fun moments have you shared in your marriage over the past four years?

n

Both my first and second marriages have given me many beautiful memories and experiences. In my present marriage, I enjoy creating special moments with my wife. I love surprising her with thoughtful gifts and doing things that make her happy.

What advice do you have for couples, coming from your personal experience?

n

My advice to couples is to make God the head of their home. They should not allow third parties to interfere in their marriage. Whenever there is a disagreement, they should find ways to settle their differences together. Most importantly, couples should never underestimate the importance of transparency, communication, understanding and trust. These qualities can help make a marriage stronger and last longer.

Why do you think marriages break up in Nigeria?

n

Marriage breakups are not only common in Nigeria. Many Nigerian couples living outside the country also face serious marital challenges. As an MC who has anchored different kinds of wedding ceremonies, I have seen and heard many stories of marriages breaking down. In some cases, I believe the couples were not adequately prepared or properly equipped for the realities of marriage.

My recommendation is that both partners should take time to know and understand each other very well before getting married. They should discuss their expectations, values, finances, family responsibilities and future plans. Above all, they should involve God in their relationship and marriage because marriage requires patience, understanding, commitment and genuine love from both partners.
