Aderonke, my wife, initially caught my attention during a singles programme at Goodnews Baptist Church, where I was drawn to her calm and respectful demeanour, and we subsequently became closer through our shared church activities and mutual friends.

My initial interest in her was sparked more by curiosity than an instant romantic connection, as I sought to learn more about her personality, values, and family background, which eventually blossomed into love as we spent more time together.

The proposal took place after we had already engaged in serious discussions about marriage, and on one evening, I took her to a Chinese restaurant, where, with the help of our close friends and church members, I had arranged a surprise proposal, to which she thankfully said yes.

One of the most unforgettable moments of our wedding day was the dancing at the reception, where we both danced with immense joy and excitement, and I particularly recall putting a lot of energy into my own dance moves, making it a fun and lively experience.

Financial security was not a primary consideration for us before getting married, as we prioritised understanding, friendship, shared values, and building a life together.

Through marriage, I have learned valuable lessons, including the importance of patience, understanding, and growing together, as well as the need to communicate, support each other, and remain committed through life's challenges and changes.

My advice to young people planning to get married is to use the waiting period to focus on personal growth, career development, and self-improvement, rather than putting their lives on hold, as this time can help shape them into better partners for the future.
