Motorist dies after vehicle crashes at high speed in Lagos accident

A fatal road accident occurred at Mongoro, inward Ile-Zik, when a female driver lost control of her vehicle and collided with a roadside building, resulting in her death, according to the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority.

The incident involved a Toyota Sienna with registration number LND 162 HB, and preliminary investigations revealed that the deceased was the sole occupant of the vehicle when the accident happened, as disclosed by LASTMA spokesperson Adebayo Taofiq in a statement on Sunday.

According to Taofiq, the driver's loss of control led to the vehicle veering off the carriageway and crashing into a building, with the impact proving catastrophic and causing instantaneous death.

LASTMA officers, who were patrolling the area, quickly responded to the scene and cordoned off the affected section of the road to prevent further accidents and facilitate vehicular movement.

The prompt intervention of the personnel helped restore the free flow of vehicles in a short time, although the crash had temporarily disrupted traffic.

Reacting to the incident, LASTMA General Manager Olalekan Bakare-Oki described the crash as a painful reminder of the dangers associated with speeding and reckless driving, emphasizing the importance of prudent and patient driving.

Bakare-Oki stressed that excessive speed is a major cause of fatal road traffic crashes and urged motorists to exercise caution, restraint, and responsibility while driving, adding that no destination is worth the ultimate sacrifice of human life.

He also advised motorists to ensure their vehicles are mechanically fit before embarking on any journey and to address any mechanical defects before driving.

The agency extended its condolences to the family of the deceased and prayed for their fortitude to bear the loss.

In a separate incident, PUNCH Metro reported that three accidents occurred in the early hours of Saturday, resulting in three injured people but no loss of life.

According to the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency spokesperson Olawale Afolabi, the accidents happened at Olupese Bus Stop inward Oshodi, Aswani Bus Stop inward Iyana Isolo, and Oba Ogunji Road in Ikeja.
