Mother in Kano passes away after giving birth to five babies

A tragic turn of events has unfolded at Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital, where Hafsatu Yusuf, a Kano woman who recently gave birth to quintuplets, has passed away.

The Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, confirmed the woman's death in a telephone interview on Thursday, stating that she died at approximately 2am at the hospital.

According to K/Na’isa, the woman experienced persistent bleeding following the delivery of her three boys and two girls, and despite efforts by medical personnel to stabilise her, they were unsuccessful in controlling the situation.

K/Na’isa revealed that the deceased had been bleeding since after giving birth, and all attempts by doctors to control the bleeding were unsuccessful, ultimately leading to her demise.

Following her passing, the woman was buried in accordance with Islamic rites at her residence in Hotoro, as confirmed by K/Na’isa.

The Public Relations Officer has appealed to the public to provide support to the babies, specifically requesting milk and other essential items to aid in their care.

Fortunately, the newborns are currently in stable condition and are receiving medical attention at the hospital, according to K/Na’isa.

This incident occurs barely a day after the Kano State Government announced that it would take responsibility for the medical care of the mother and her babies, following their delivery at the facility.

Previously, the ministry had disclosed that the quintuplets were delivered successfully and that both the mother and the newborns were placed under special care by medical personnel.

The husband of the deceased, Malam Salisu Nufi’u, had expressed gratitude to the state government for their timely intervention and support.

The government has reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing maternal and child healthcare services and reducing mortality rates across the state.
