Monarch contributes ₦100m, pickup truck to bolster Igboho's vigilance group

The Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi, has made a substantial donation of ₦100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to bolster the operations of the Iru Ekun Security Network, a community-driven security initiative founded by Sunday Adeyemo, also known as Sunday Igboho, a prominent Yoruba Nation advocate.
nThis significant donation was announced during a courtesy visit by Igboho and members of the security outfit to the Ooni's Palace in Ile-Ife on Tuesday, as part of their efforts to strengthen ties with the monarch.
nA statement issued on Wednesday by the palace, signed by Sodiq Lawal for the Director of Media and Public Affairs, Moses Olafare, formally confirmed the donation, highlighting the Ooni's commitment to supporting community-based security initiatives.
nThe statement described the Ooni as the Permanent Chairman of the Southern Nigerian Traditional Rulers Council and the Natural Head of the Oduduwa race worldwide, who has donated ₦100 million and a brand-new Hilux vehicle to support the Iru Ekun Security Network.
nThe Ooni commended Igboho for his dedication to the security and well-being of the Yoruba people, emphasizing that security is a fundamental aspect of sustainable development and praising Igboho's bold step towards strengthening community security.
nAccording to the monarch, protecting the people is a collective responsibility that transcends political, religious, and ideological differences, and every initiative designed to preserve lives and maintain peace deserves encouragement and support.
nThe Ooni urged traditional rulers, community leaders, business executives, professionals, and other Yoruba stakeholders to support the Iru Ekun Security Network, stressing that unity is crucial to the region's peace and progress.
nHe noted that when the Yoruba people speak with one voice and work together, no force can undermine the peace and progress of Yorubaland, and this is the time for all lovers of Yoruba culture and heritage to unite for a common purpose.
nIgboho responded by thanking the monarch for the donation, describing him as the father of all Yoruba people worldwide and praising his humility, kindness, and love for the Yoruba nation.
nIgboho said he had come to receive the monarch's royal blessings as the Iru Ekun Security Network continues its mission of protecting the Yoruba people, and to brief the Ooni on the activities of the security outfit and seek his continued guidance and support.
nHe also revealed that plans are underway to organize a security summit involving traditional rulers from across Yorubaland to discuss practical solutions to insecurity in the region, subject to the Ooni's approval, with the proposed summit expected to hold at the Ooni's Palace in Ile-Ife.
